A Message from our Grand Chaplains

A time for rest

We are in time of anxiety, but we should look to some of the positives and one of these is a chance for rest. There are many key workers who are more pressed than before, and there are those who are looking after children, but for many, there is a bit more time on our hands, or we are at home more.

It can be difficult to know what to do with our new routines. Even in rural ministry, things are just as busy, but it is nice to be at home in the evenings. Yet, it is a time that we can use to rest. Maybe this new season that we are in is a call to rest as in Western life we are all slaves to our diaries and ‘phones.

Yet we are given an opportunity for physical and spiritual rest in Jesus in Matthew 11: ‘Come to me, all who labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.’ This is an anxious time – but it is a time for physical rest and to finding rest in God.
