Our Prime Minister Boris Johnson has now advised that everyone in the UK should avoid non-essential travel and contact with others to fight the Coronavirus. Pregnant women, people over the age of 70 and those with certain health conditions should consider the advice particularly important. We are to avoid pubs, clubs, restaurants and social gatherings.
The Most Worthy Grand Master and the Executive are of the opinion that we must act responsibly, in light of the Prime Minister’s recent actions and advice.
As such, now is the time for the Institution to play its part in supporting the Prime Minister’s initiatives, and the Grand Master has therefore authorised the following:
1. All lodge meetings are to be suspended until further notice, with immediate effect.
2. All impending parades should be postponed, with immediate effect.
3. All Lodge functions/social gatherings to be cancelled, with immediate effect.
The nation is on the cusp of an epidemic the likes of which we have never experienced. An unknown quantity!
As an Executive, we have a duty of care to the membership as a whole and recognise that there are elderly and vulnerable members with underlying illnesses who are experiencing great anxiety. The measures that the Grand Master has authorised are tantamount to the advice given by the Prime Minister, to avoid non-essential travel and contact with others to fight Coronavirus. We are in unchartered waters and it would be remiss of the leaders of the Institution to not take heed of the Government’s advice.
The Grand Master and the Executive pass on their best wishes to all and their families with a hope and trust that we will look out for each other as written in the scriptures:
2 Peter 1:5-8 King James Version (KJV)
And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge;
And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness;
And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity.
For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ
